VoxPopuli attains official nonprofit status through Institute for Nonprofit News

VoxPopuli is pleased to announce that the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) — which counts more than 300 nonprofit, nonpartisan member news outlets committed to public service and investigative journalism — is our new fiscal sponsor.

As an established 501c(3) organization, INN will accept tax-deductible donations on our behalf until we get our own tax-free charity status. The fiscal sponsor ensures that donations are spent according to our mission, and INN will handle all of the accounting and IRS filings that come with tax-deductible donations to ensure everything is legal and transparent.

“As we navigate our first year, we looked to INN for guidance and the people there have been incredibly helpful, so it was natural to seek INN’s fiscal sponsorship,” said VoxPopuli founding editor Norine Dworkin. “I feel that we are well taken care of with INN, and our donors should feel at ease, too. With INN handling the accounting, it leaves us free to do what we do best: focus on providing valuable news for our communities.”
