Nicole’s Commitment to Community and Champion for District 1

Nicole’s Commitment to Community and Champion for District 1
To the Editor:

There have been numerous comments in this race suggesting that the current commissioner isn’t responsive to citizens’ needs and requests, and that access to her office is harder than ever. These stories are at odds with the reality I’ve experienced.

As a supporter of Nicole Wilson, I’ve actively helped with both her 2020 and current campaigns. While I’m not a deep-pocketed donor, I have contributed some funds. As a community scout leader, I’ve consistently found time and dates for the Commissioner or her staff to attend Cub Scout meetings each year for the past three years. They even stayed late at the county administration building to provide our den with a tour last fall in 2023. I was able to simply email the office and schedule a meeting time.  In our community, I’ve seen her office respond quickly to getting long-overdue traffic lights installed at major interchanges, such as Summerlake, Fiquette, and Reams Road. They even managed to get a temporary light installed when a delay, caused by material shortages due to the pandemic, threatened to postpone the installation for months.

Additionally, after many years of residents in Independence complaining about speeding on our roads, our HOA team worked with the commissioner to get speed humps installed. This process wasn’t quick, but it’s important to note that many other government rules and agencies must sign off and execute the work. The commissioner doesn’t have the final say alone; she is a member of a board and a county government.

Our area faces many challenges with growth and development, which bring both exciting opportunities and potential issues. However, one thing District 1 doesn’t have is a problem getting results from our current county commissioner, Nicole Wilson.
