Updated Feb. 18, 2025.
The city of Ocoee is now accepting applications for its 2025 Neighborhood Matching Grant Program, which provides money to help neighborhoods with improvement projects.
Both homeowners associations (HOA) and non-HOA neighborhoods within the city limits are eligible for the grants. The program matches 50 percent of a project's total cost — up to a maximum of $2,000 per project. There’s a total of $28,000 to be distributed.
The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m., March 14. Applications can be found online and at Ocoee City Hall, 1 North Bluford Ave. Once complete, hand deliver or mail the applications back to city hall.
Running for close to 20 years, the matching grant program was previously known as the Most Valuable Partnership Award, but in 2019, it was overhauled and renamed to make the process easier. The distribution pot got bigger too. Previously the city had just $12,000 to disburse, but in 2023, that grew to $28,000.
To quality for a grant, projects must fit into one of three categories:
HOAs must have their boards greenlight a project; attach the minutes to the application. Non-HOA neighborhoods must attach a letter with the signatures of all neighborhood participants who will be involved, giving their go-ahead with their applications.
Applicants must identify all permits required to complete their projects and draft a budget that reflects all costs. Applications should include several “before” photos that show where the project will be located.
Projects should be completed by August 22. Project documents — paid invoices, cancelled checks, proofs of purchase — as well as "during" photos taken while the project was in progress and "after" photos once it was complete should also be submitted by this date.
The city commission evaluates all projects. According to the city, applicants will be notified when their projects are on the commission agenda and if they are approved. The city tells VoxPopuli that most projects are approved provided they follow the guidelines and there's still money in the fund. For more information, call Community Relations at 407-905-3100.
